Sleep is for the weak...

week 15: draw a pony doing something they dislike.

...but a rested mind is a sharp mind.

Twilight loves an all–nighter as much as the next pony, but she really should get some rest. That candle's almost out!


I am so happy with this I don't even know what to say. I did everything on my own here! I came up with the pose, figured out where to put everything, did all the perspective work, all that fun stuff, with zero references! I've never really done anything like this before!

I mean sure, it's unfinished, but I ran out of time again. I spent a lot of time on the head since I kept drawing it wrong, like too fat, or too tall, stuff like that. I think it still is a little too tall, but neh. Chalk it up to Twi's huge mane.


Speaking of the mane, the placement of her horn kind of clashed with her bangs there, so I split them around the horn to make it not look as awkward. If you've ever seen a pic of Twi with her bangs solid, the horn looks really weird sitting there without any realistic sort of hair–parting thing going on, and I couldn't figure anything out, so I just went with this simple fix instead.

I also missed the line that shows where the base of her neckmane goes, near her arm down there. Whoops.

I also like how her neckmane turned into that 3D curl effect going on there. The shadow wasn't intentional at first, but after adjusting her head, I was too lazy to erase any lines, and I was sloppy when putting the mane together, so I got pencil everywhere.

I noticed her mane's shape was distinct from the excess penciling, and after defining them a bit, what you see now emerged, so I worked it in there when darkening the image.

I think it turned out rather nicely, myself, save for around the ear maybe. Not sure. Making hair not look like it's taped onto the pony is something I've been wondering about for a long time now though, and to have this happen entirely on its own is pretty interesting. Need to see if I can make that happen, instead of just having it come out of nowhere.
